This year’s festival „VIDES DEJA 2013” will take place in Ropaži from July 29th till August 3rd. The festival will feature contemporary dance, contact improvisation and music workshops led by several professional choreographers. Performances created in the workshops and performances by the guests from Israel - “Liat Dror Nir Ben Gal” dance company (Performance “ZEN DANCE”), and the dance theater company “Stars' Well” will be shown on the 2nd and 3rd of August.
During the last several years the contemporary dance art scene in Latvia has turned to non-traditional playing fields, while merging different art genres. One of the means of expression for contemporary dance is "VIDES DEJA", where the choreography is adjusted to the specific place, surroundings and objects.
This years’ festival in Ropaži will unite the idea of "VIDES DEJA" with the essence from the project ĀRA LASĪTAVA (Outdoor reading room)- to read not only books, but also signs, symbols, movements, drawings, notes and words.
The essence of the "VIDES DEJA" project is the outdoor performances at different locations, playing with the different objects and territories, breaking the stereotype that dance is confined to closed areas. The interplay of the body movements and the environment create a whole new meaning to the place that we see on a daily basis.
To put it in the words of the main organizer and choreographer of the festival Lilija Lipora “The event and its unorthodox format surprises everyone – be it a visitor, a random passer, a driver that happens to drive by or a person who lives at the place of the performance. Even a well known spot is quickly transformed to create a different feel for time and space for all participants…”
After the performances on the 2nd and 3rd of August, everyone is warmly welcome to move their feet in the outdoors.
